Clinicians

Christian moved to NZ after finishing his dental qualifications in Germany. Whilst living in the Hibiscus Coast Christian completed further training in Germany (University of Frankfurt) and (aside from lots of frequent traveller miles!) obtained a Masters Degree in Oral Implantology.
Christian practices as a General Practitioner with a special interest in Oral Surgery incl Wisdom Teeth removal and placing Dental Implants.
In 2018 Christian joined the University of Otago in Dunedin as a Professional Practice Fellow teaching 4th year and Final year students at the Department of Oral Diagnostics and Oral surgery.
After spending 4 enjoyable years in Otago, Christian with wife Vanessa and their two gorgeous daughters sought warmer weather again. Christian joined as a Clinical Partner at Mahurangi Dental, enjoying working with a fantastic team.
Outside his clinical work in Matakana and Snells Beach, Christian is also working as a Tutor for the Implant Institute Perth accredited by the Aston University, UK.
Christian has extensively lectured nationally as well as internationally and authored several papers on dental implants with a particular interest in peri-implantitis reduction.

Candace’s medical career spans over 20 years, initially focusing on Forensic Anthropology including working for the UK Disaster Victim Identification Team and teaching Anatomy at the University of Dundee in Scotland. Candace graduated with a First-Class Degree with Commendation in Dental Surgery from the University of Dundee and Aberdeen.
Following a highly successful period practicing in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, Candace moved to Auckland in 2015 and has been practicing around the Hibiscus Coast and Matakana ever since.
For Candace, dentistry is a passion, doing her very best for her patients, she takes the stress out of the dental experience with her gentle and caring approach; always ensuring patients have complete knowledge and control of their treatment. Candace provides the full range of general dentistry and has a particular interest in endodontics and oral surgery. In her spare time she enjoys walking, cycling and playing the piano.

Dr. Juliana Skorcheva ( BDS, Plovdiv, Bulgaria, 1990 NZDREX 1998, Otago, NZ) recently joined our team on a part-time basis after practicing as an owner and principal dentist for over 24 years in Auckland. She has altogether 32 years extensive experience in all aspects of general and cosmetic dentistry in New Zealand, South Africa and Bulgaria. Juliana was a mentor for the NZDA for 2 years (2017/2018) and volunteered for the NZDA campaigns (free dental care 2012/2015/2019), she also is a foundation member of the NZACD (academy of cosmetic dentistry) Her professional interests include crown and bridge work, implant dentistry and root canal treatments. Juliana has two adult children and in her free time likes hiking, paddle boarding, fishing and gardening.

Luisa Antonio BHSc (Oral Health) currently works at both our practices Matakana and Snells Beach. She joined the business 6 months after the practice opened in Matakana while also working part time with the Auckland Regional Dental Service (WDHB) and two other private practices. Luisa’s 8 years clinical experience with the WDHB covered the wider West Auckland and Rodney district. Although Luisa still practices dental therapy, she has chosen to focus on the high demand for dental hygiene with her clientele, three days a week at Matakana and one day at Snells Beach. In the 12 years of clinical experience, Luisa believes that dental hygiene is extremely important because it’s the centre point to optimum overall health. Her focus on early prevention, elimination or control of periodontal disease, dental decay and tooth loss would help prevent links to heart disease, diabetes, and other health complications. Fun for Luisa outside the clinic include cooking, baking, travel, and shopping. Come and see Luisa for all your dental hygiene care!

Karen offers high quality, aesthetically pleasing dentures that are crafted with care specific to your individual needs. With over 35 years of experience Karen is a highly experienced and skilled denture technician.
Karen has serviced the Auckland area for over 35 years before joining Mahurangi Dental in 2022.
Karen is local to the area, and in her spare time loves fishing, being at the beach side, and all things ocean.
